After recent reports stated that Nicki Minaj would testify at her brother's rape trial, now reports say otherwise. The rapper may not testify after all.
Jelani Maraj, Nicki's older brother, is accused of raping a then ll-year-old girl in 2015. On Monday, jurors heard disturbing testimony from the girl's 10-year-old brother, who was eight at the time, that revealed details of the alleged rape.
Prosecutors allege that Maraj would have sex with the girl as often as four times a week. It was reported that Minaj would testify that the victim's mother attempted to extort her for millions.
However, a source close to the singer told TMZ that Minaj would not be involved in her brother's case. The source claims Minaj never planned to take the stand and that her brother's legal team stating otherwise was simply false. Still, Maraj's attorney might be holding out hope that the rapper takes the stand, telling TMZ, "I have no idea, we'll see."
The wife of Maraj wept on the witness stand Wednesday in recounting how she first heard that her husband allegedly raped his stepdaughter. Jacqueline Robinson, testifying in Nassau County Court, said her 11-year-old girl had already become withdrawn and uncommunicative in the months before the Dec. 1, 2015, accusation.
Robinson testified her marriage was in bad shape before she was told about the suspicions regarding her husband, according to New York Daily News.
An expert witness testified last week that there was evidence of sexual abuse.
