TLC Starts a Kickstarter Campaign to Raise $150K For Their Final Album, Katy Perry Helps!

Like their song says, I guess TLC 'ain't too proud to beg'...

R&B group TLC is asking for donations to record one more album. Remaining members of the group Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas are asking for money through a Kickstarter campaign which launched yesterday (Jan. 19).

The ladies already began working on their latest album and are expecting to release it in May when their tour starts.

The group is hoping to collect at least $150,000 through the campaign which will go towards a writing session in the studio with a producer and engineer. The money beyond that will go to booking music producers, writing sessions, mixing sessions, recording sessions, and more. 

Damn! Pebbles really messed them up financially, hunh?

Well, it looks like the group is already halfway towards meeting their goal with nearly $70,000 raised so far.

On their campaign website, TLC says:

"This album, our FINAL ALBUM, is dedicated to all of you that have stuck with us, always challenging us to do our best. And of course, it’s for the new fans too! ;) We just want to put out great music that touches everyone."

Fans who donate will be able to receive custom TLC items, such as clothes worn by them, exclusive new music, or even upcoming tour tickets.

"People may say, 'Hey, you are celebrities. Why can't you just pay for it yourself?'" Chilli said.

"But it doesn't work that way. There's a lot that goes into it. We want to bring our fans into the process and see how it's done."

She said using Kickstarter would allow them to have more control over the direction of the album, according to the Daily News.

The Grammy-winning group found most of their success in the '90s and early '00s with hits like "Creep," "Waterfalls," and "No Scrubs."

Their last album 3D was released at the end of 2002, several months after Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes passed away.

The pop star chipped in a reportedly $5,000! And because of that, she's entitled to a slumber party with T-Boz or Chilli, which is one of the perks for her generous donation.
