Bill Cosby's TV Wife Phylicia Rashad Defends Him Against Sexual Assault Allegations

Phylicia Rashad is speaking out for the first time about the recent allegations of sexual assault made against her former TV husband, Bill Cosby.

In an interview with Showbiz 411, the actress, who played as the mother Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, said she felt the allegations were part of a larger plot to destroy Cosby's career and believes someone is trying to keep him off television.

"And it’s worked," Phylicia said. "All his contracts have been cancelled."

As previously posted, reruns of The Cosby Show have been pulled from TV Land as well as another NBC comedy show that Cosby had in the works.

Phylicia dismissed claims from both models Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson. “Oh, please,” she said when their names came up.

"Forget these women," she said. "What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it's orchestrated. I don't know why or who's doing it, but it's the legacy. And it's a legacy that is so important to the culture."

Phylicia also defended Cosby's wife, Camille. This is a tough woman, a smart woman," she said. "She's no pushover."

Phylicia's statement comes right after Keshia Knight Pulliam's comments. Keshia, who played little Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show, spoke out with the Today show earlier this week about Cosby after she was fired by Donald Trump on Celebrity Apprentice for not reaching out to Cosby and asking him for money for charity.
