Katy beat out other NFL top picks: Rihanna and Coldplay to do the halftime show. But, it seems like the NFL wants these artists to play to pay now which they're calling a "financial contribution."
Being that the Super Bowl is the most-watched television event of the year, the NFL feels like it's worth it.
So what did Katy say in response to that? Well, she recently made an appearance on ESPN's College Game Day and said:
"I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
Even though Katy made this response, Billboard reports she officially signed on to perform halftime at Super Bowl XLIX.
I think Katy is a great choice! Plus, this is even more exposure for anyone to perform on the big stage. Look at Beyonce who used the halftime show as a platform to announce her 'Mrs. Carter Show World Tour' at the 2013 Super Bowl. Great marketing. But then again, it is the artists who draw all this attention to make it the biggest stage to perform on in the first place. Granted these artists have bookoo amounts of money, they are already performing for free. The NFL sometimes covers travel and production costs.
So should the NFL start charging artists to play? No, I don't think so.
What do you think of the NFL wanting to charge Katy Perry to play at the halftime show? Do you agree with her for not wanting to pay the NFL or do you think she should just give up the money and pay?
