Russell, 37, was the one who filed for divorce from Katy last December, stating irreconcilable differences.
According to reports, he didn't take any money from Katy even though he may have been entitled to half of what she earned during their marriage. And, Russell gave Katy the rights to a $6.5 million home they bought together during their marriage.
Russell has said in a previous interview with Ellen DeGeneres that he still loves his ex-wife as a human being.
"But, sometimes when you're in a relationship I suppose it doesn't work out, does it? But that doesn't mean I regret it or anything."
In Katy's new documentary, Katy Perry: Part Of Me, she admitted: "Being in love is a dream, but the reality is not like the movies. There's a lot more compromise and sacrifice."
She said she would fly to wherever Russell was working to spend a couple days with him. She told the camera, "I'm trying to keep my marriage alive."
After he filed for divorce, Katy said, "The truth is I'm a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale. . .I did everything I could but it still failed. The dream of being in love is a lot different than the reality of making it work."
According to US Weekly, the former couple also had disagreements over starting a family. During another backstage scene in Katy's documentary, Russell texts her a picture of McDonald's and jokes they should name their child "Ronald."
Katy admitted, "A baby can't have a baby -- and I'm still a baby."
