"Its #Gritty #GULLY #Emotional #JAMRock Very strong underlying message 4 girls like me! #listentoyomama," Rihanna tweeted on Monday in reference to her new video for her reggae song "Man Down" that premiered on 106 and Park yesterday.
The video was shot in Jamaica and just like the lyrics say, "I didn't mean to end his life I know it wasn't right," Rihanna is shown in the beginning of the video shooting a man walking in the street and then the video flashbacks to the day before to explain why she shot him.
In this video we're getting a taste of the old Rihanna which reminds me of when she first came out on the music scene and did the video for the reggae song "Pon de Replay."
@Rihanna says "Man Down" is gangsta and told MTV News, "It comes from me trying to achieve that [vibe]. I'm super inspired by reggae music [and it] has been a part of me since I was born, and I grew up listening to it. I grew up loving it. My favorite artists are all reggae artists."
The superstar tweeted a little over an hour ago, "Thank you for the amazing response on ManDownVideo I love you guys, and I love that u GOT IT!!!"

"Young girls/women all over the world...we are a lot of things! We're strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naïve! We always think it could NEVER be us, but in reality, it can happen to ANY of us! So ladies be careful and #listentoyomama! I love you and I care!"
